I purchased my FD about 7 to 8 years ago. I found her up in WA and from the start it proved to be an adventure. The deal I struck with her previous owner was cash and trade for 2 2nd generation RX-7s I had: a TII and an NA RX-7. So I enlisted the help of my buddy Kyle to help me drive one of the RX7s up to WA. Every thing was going pretty well until we crossed the boarder into WA and the NA RX-7 that Kyle is driving decides to grenade its transmission and came to a skidding stop on I-5. So, we’re sitting on the side of the road and I decide to just keep going in the TII and talk to this guy in person and see what he wants to do. We get to his house and he opens the door and with a puzzled look and asks where the other RX-7 is... About an hour and half south on I5 I reply...The guy was cool and says no biggie, I have 2 trannys in my garage, lets go get my dads truck and we will just tow her. Well the truck we’re going to tow her with turns out to be a mid 70’s chevy with a stained glass paint job...yeah that’s right; purple, green, red, yellow...all in house paint, she was pretty... So we’re rope towing an RX-7 with the most hideously loud trucks on earth up I-5 for about 70 miles. Well I hand over the cash and we parted ways. Since then it has always been an adventure with Mazdas but I wouldn’t want to drive anything else! I built her up basically from stock and have been blessed with lots of help from the paint job here at Hewitts to the kick ass stereo that Pro Audio sponsored me! I love to autocross, hill climb race her, and I have drifted her a little. Now she is now retired from most racing just because I am a wuss and don’t want to hurt her new paint, but mainly because I also have a very well prepared TII RX-7 that I can race and throw around!
